A nice Christmas Morning

December 25th, 2008 by Jim

There is a sound, it barely touches the ear. The mind is stirring awake, as more sounds are heard. Voices. Speaking softly, they are talking about presents, excited, in anticipation, eagerly waiting for me to wake up, get out of bed and let them downstairs. Even the dog is excited. (Although I think that she simply wants to go outside and water the lawn) I stretch, yawn, and roll over and consider sleeping for another hour.

I’m coaxed out of bed by Susan, who reminds me that it’s Christmas Morning, and I have an obligation to let my children have fun opening presents…  I grumble, groan, and creak, as I get up out of bed.  Quickly dressed, I make my way down the stairs, with a chorus of Children wishing me “Good Morning” and “Merry Christmas”.

I tried to tell the kids that it was the 24th, and that they had to wait another day to open their presents, but that only lasted about 5 minutes. (but it was fun watching the confused looks…)  As I got my first cup of coffee, and breakfast, the decimation of paper wrapping, squeals of delight, followed by photographs, piles of empty boxes, and smiling faces began.

The aftermath included cutting open all the blister packs, putting together the leggo toys, finding batteries for the rc vehicles, and other power hungry devices.

I received some CD’s, some Nickelback, AC/DC, and Darius Rucker… and we listened to them immediately!

We hope everyone had as nice a morning as we did!

Reflections of a man…

November 30th, 2008 by Jim

Ernest I. Manley, 99, Malone, died Wednesday night at Alice Hyde Nursing Home, where he had been a resident since April 17

http://www.watertowndailytimes.com/article/20081128/OBIT01/311289980

I didn’t know Ernest Manley well. I did however learn quite a bit about him, through my wife. She remembers him when she was just a little girl, and spoke of him often. “Grampa Manley”, as she called him, was an amazing man. He cared deeply for people, brightened everyone’s day, and always has a smile, a story, and a laugh. He taught his children, their children, and even their children too many things to mention. Since I’m married to his grand daughter, I can barely say that I know Ernest Manley, but his spirit clearly survives in his family.

I hope that everyone that knew Earnest Manley realizes the positive mark he’s left on all of you. I get to live with some of the reflections of him everyday.

He will be missed.

“I’m A Bitter Gun Owner And I Voted!”

November 1st, 2008 by Jim

Dear Mr. Obama,

You state that you’re Pro 2nd Ammendment.  You say that you’re on the side of the Hunters and Sportsmen.  Yet, your record shows your true colors.

What makes you think that you should have the right to take away my firearms? Legal firearms owners aren’t the problem.  You know that, but you think we’re going to ignore the double-standard.

I’ll make you a deal, You can have mine, when your Secret Service agents give up theirs.  Feel free to call me when that happens.

Oh, and when you try to run a route around the 2nd Amendment and place legislation on Ammunition, realize that I won’t give up my reloading equipment, my powder, shot, lead, and casting equipment either.

I’m not a “gun nut”, and I’m not “bitter” as you believe, I’m simply a shooter who finds the craft of casting, reloading, and shooting my own weapons as relaxing, therapeutic and it keeps my skills intact if I ever have need to defend this country as I swore an oath to, in 1985. From all enemies, foreign or domestic.  I take that very seriously.

Oh, and just to let you know as well, I’m not an NRA member, I was when I was 12yrs old until I was 18, but left that crowd due to a disagreement regarding automatic weapons for deer hunting.  I do, however, believe in the rights and freedoms that this country has, and stepping on them, socializing our country, increasing government, taxation, and weakening our military, are just a few things that I don’t want you to do.

You’re a charlatan, you play the race card, when it suites you.  This shows that you simply want the power that comes with the office of President of these United States, but you really don’t know how to wield it.  That, is truly scary.

I’m an American.  I grew up during the cold war, I remember bomb drills in elementary school, and freedom.  Freedoms that you want to remove.  Once, this country was about letting people live with minimal government.  However, you want to increase the unions, strip our rights, and socialize our way of life.  You call it “redistribution of wealth”.

Here’s a news flash, You’re not Robin Hood and we’re not Nottinghamshire.

You cry for “more debate and discussion”, I call for more decisions.  (Look up the root of that word… you could learn something)

I want a decisive leader, not a wishy-washy charlie brown leader.  Go play football with Lucy, but I don’t want you in the white house.  You’re not qualified enough, you can’t make up your mind, and you can’t answer a question decisivly.

You won’t provide your original birth certificate, yet, when I re-applied for my Passport earlier this year, I had to produce MY ORIGINAL birth certificate, what makes you so special? Is it that you’re “black”? or is it that you’re a Presidential candidate?

I can tell you this, if you were the same type of American that I am, you’d provide your original birth certificate to allay any suspicions of impropriety.  Yet, you stand behind the copy that is posted online.

You also harp on your opponents choice of running mate, yet you chose Biden, and old “do nothing” who’s own health is in great question.

Having had two anneurisms in the past, it is highly recommended to have regular brain scans, as he has shown a history of having them.  Yet, he ignores the recommendations from doctors, and simply “rolls the dice”.  These are NOT people that I want running “my” America.

To sum it all up, I don’t TRUST you, your campaign, and your statements.

I teach my children, “It’s not what you SAY that counts in this world, it’s what you DO!”, and you Mr. Obama, could learn from that.

These are just a few reasons why, Mr. Obama, you did not get my vote.

Mom always said, “If you have nothing nice to say, it’s better to say nothing at all.”

October 13th, 2008 by Jim

Wow, I think I’m going to use that advice.

I’ve recently been let go from my job, as a Sr. Security Architect.  The company I was working for is being purchased, and I was made redundant.  I was actually told over the phone, and given a very short severance package.  The company I was working for is being purchased by an offshore company, who wants to make more inroads into the US.

Now I’m gone, and several others, but I don’t care anymore, I’m gone.  Time to move on.

I have nothing nice to say…

So, I’m saying nothing.

So long, and thanks for none of the fish.
